  • Lantern Walk

We will meet at the Botanic Gardens.  The children have made lanterns for the walk in their classrooms.  In honor of St. Martin, we will be raising money and gathering supplies for OSAAB, an organization supporting abandoned babies here in Albania.  You can visit their website here http://www.osaab.org/home.html.  We are discussing at school how there are children in our city that are in need, and that we can help them by giving the things that they need.  If you are not able to make it to the walk, you can still bring donations here to the school this week, or you can donate directly to OSAAB on their website.  As a school community we can make an enormous impact on the lives of these babies. Imagine if we could provide enough diapers to last them until our walk next year, what a difference it would make.  It's a perfect way to start the holiday season of giving!  We hope to see you all there!!

  • Lantern Walk

As the lantern walk last year was a great success it has been decided to make it an annual event.
This year we are asking for supplies that can be given to the OSAAB charity that supports abandoned babies.
A donation could be diapers in small sizes no. 2 - 3 - 4, perfume free cream, clothes for babies etc. All donations are welcome and highly appreciated. But this year we also ask for donations to be given to Durres Development Center Home for Disabled Children and Durres orphanage homes that are state run centers with tight budgets.
They are asking for diapers size 5, which are to be used for children that a bed ridden due to a sever handicap. However they are also asking for, shampoo, perfume free creams, clothes (can of course be used), but also memory games, building blocks, puzzles, books, balls and other "safe" toys are great donations - again even if they are used.

  • PTC Minutes

    Welcoming and Introduction

We discussed goals for the PTC:

Teachers: Build a space where parents and staff are working together to create a positive school atmosphere.

Parents:  To create a dialog between school and parents about current and future plans for the Montessori program to grow together as a community.

    Clarification period

During this time staff answered questions that parents had about classrooms or the program.  Here is what was clarified during this time:

    • Class sizes for the Casa:  There are 24 students per class and this is the cap, it will never exceed this number.
    • Snack Time:  Every child has the opportunity to eat snack during the morning, but the children eat when they choose as the morning work cycle is individualized thus allowing a individualized snack time.
    • A parent information night on the transition from the Montessori program into pre-elementary and what that transition looks like for the child.
    • Field Trips: At this age with transportation issues with car seats and potty training school hour fieldtrips are more appropriate at the elementary level
    • A curriculum parent education night will be held November 19, 2013 at 18:00
    • Friends of WAT parent nights will begin again and we will keep you posted on dates and times.

    Holiday Party

We started planning for the evening Montessori holiday party and there will be a party planning meeting on November 19, 2013 @ 17:00 in Ms. Elizabeth's room.

    Closing

We were really excited to have our first PTC meeting and are so thankful for the parents who came and participated.  We think this is a great opportunity for the staff and parents to work together and are looking forward to all the wonderful work we will do together.

  • European Montessori Congress

    Dear Parents-
We are very pleased to share with you that we will be attending the European Montessori Congress in Budapest October 18-20th.  This congress will be a gathering of Montessori teachers, administrators, and professionals from all over Europe.  We are so excited that this year Albania will be represented among this group.  During the conference we will receive professional development training and networking opportunities.  We will be able to exchange ideas, tools, and further our training.  Our school is committed to staying true to authentic Montessori principles and staying updated on new education trends, and best practices.  We live in a fast paced world, and these trainings help us to keep an authentic Montessori program in an ever-changing world.  Our school is the only school in Albania providing Montessori education, and we see this as a responsibility to be a leader in this field and provide an excellent example of this unique philosophy.  We are very excited to continue and improve our training!

We are very excited and proud to announce that two of our Montessori teaching assistants are completing their MCI (Montessori Centre International) teacher’s training in April. We are so proud of our Casa A and B assistant teachers Ms. Marsida and Ms. Irena – they have worked very hard to combine work and school.

They will go to London to complete the final part of their course.  We will now have three Albanian Montessori teachers.
Ms. Tila was the first, having received her AMI training in Colorado several years ago. Be sure to congratulate them when you see them.
