Finance and Operations Manager
- Contract Type: Full Time
- Contract Term: Permanent
- Start Date: December 2026
Britannica International School Budapest is looking for an experienced Finance and Operations Manager to lead the business side of the school. You will report to the Principal and have a secondary report to Ariston Education Group Finance and HR. You will be the school’s senior lead for finance, facilities, suppliers, HR and operations.
This role is about building as well as running. You will set up the controls, policies and processes the school needs to grow, not only keep day-to-day administration going.
What you will do
• Finance: Design and run the school’s financial controls framework. Prepare the annual budget with the Principal and manage fee invoicing and collections. Deliver month end and management reporting to the group. Manage the outsourced accounting and payroll providers, and work with them on VAT, HIPA and NAV filings.
• Commercial income: Make sure clubs, holiday camps, lettings, transport and catering are properly costed, priced and profitable.
• Facilities and suppliers: Line manage the Premises Manager. Oversee preventive maintenance and holiday works. Tender and manage key suppliers, and keep the building compliant (tűzvédelem, munkavédelem).
• HR operations: Line manage the HR Manager and oversee the full employee lifecycle under the Hungarian Labour Code. This includes safer recruitment, the Single Central Register, payroll inputs and building a clear salary and benefits framework.
• Compliance and safeguarding: Keep licences, insurance, risk assessments and GDPR practices up to date. Make sure safeguarding is part of every contractor and visitor arrangement.
What we are looking for
• A degree in business, finance, economics or a similar field
• 5+ years in finance and operations, including at least 3 years in management
• Strong skills in budgeting, cash flow, management reporting and Hungarian VAT, with experience designing and running financial controls
• Experience managing contractors and suppliers, including tendering
• Working knowledge of the Hungarian Labour Code and payroll
• Fluent Hungarian and English, spoken and written
• Advanced Excel and Microsoft 365
• An organised, discreet and hands-on approach, and the confidence to challenge established practice
It would be and added value if you also have: an accounting qualification (mérlegképes könyvelő, ACCA/CIMA), experience in a school or multi-site group, group or intercompany reporting, ERP or HRIS experience, or experience recruiting international staff.
Working pattern: You will follow the school-year calendar, but you’ll need to be present during key holiday periods for maintenance works and year-end and budget work.
How to apply: Send your CV and a cover letter to a.kiss@britannicaschool.hu and cc principal@britannicaschool.hu by 08/11/2026. Start date: 01/12/2026
